Corpus Christi Sunday  C

An artist painted the love story of Jesus Feeding the five thousand people, who were weary and tired. The scene is like an open air picnic, people mixing and sharing the meal. In the distance there is a church and a pathway leading to the church. I wonder what the artist is saying. Maybe the church is Heaven and the pathway of life is a winding road, never straight and Jesus is our spirit Food for the journey. I think that the artist also might want to focus our minds on the meaning of ’Body of Christ,’ which is people in the ordinary everyday struggles of life.

The church celebrates Holy Communion, The Body of Christ, through the bread and wine present at Mass, but the Body of Christ is also really present in the picnic mix of people’s hearts...the extended Body of Christ. When we say The Amen prayer to ’Body of Christ’ at Mass we are saying Amen to God’s Presence in human persons. Both Presences compliment. It is said, that if there isn’t communion with people there isn’t communion at the altar.

Mother Teresa said that she could not serve the Body of Christ in the poor and rejected, without the helpful Presence of Jesus in Holy Communion. Saint Benedict tells that it is not enough to have precious vessels and ornaments on the altar if there are poor without food or friendship in the community. Jesus invites ....Come, Take and Eat.
