34 Sunday Christ the King  B

It was a memorable celebration. It was the opening of A Care Centre for adults. Ministers of State were there, different politicians, many public representatives, people of different nationalities and different religions, and two hundred friends and visitors. There were brilliant speeches, after which I lit three candles. I decided to ‘have a go’ at singing a song. I had learned from the residents, that if you are a poor singer, they will always join in, out of sympathy, to support you. So it went –

’If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands.’....

I was amazed with the response. Every man, woman and child joined in, including Ministers of State – and Opposition. So we sang ‘Hello’, ‘Well done’ and ‘God Bless’ with ‘If you’re happy and you know it.....and you really ought to show it.’ What a surprise that a child’s song could be so powerful .

When Jesus speaks about power, being King, He is not thinking of the power of armies and artillery. He says, that God’s power is different. It is the power of His Spirit, in the human heart and in the Universe. God’s power is in mercy, in simplicity, in restraint, in compassion, in serving, touching our hearts with a child’s song....so many little things and little ways. Clapping hands, whispering in silence. God’s Power is The Spirit surprising us all the time and, in gracious ways, reminding us ‘The Earth‘ too is full of God’s Glory...
