Ascension Sunday  C

A little boy asked his Dad to play football in the garden. Dad was tired and told him to play on his own. The little man said that it is no good playing on his own, because there is nobody there to say ‘great shot’. Joy needs celebration. It is human...think of weddings, birthdays, success stories.

The Love Story of Easter was ‘The Great Winning Shot‘ for the first believers ....The Risen Christ embracing all our humanity. They want to extend The Event with celebration. Ascension is an aspect of Glorious Mystery. They want to proclaim its meaning and wonder for our living today. Jesus told them that they will be clothed with a new presence....My going away will not be loss, He said, but rather be a more intimate presence. Every human heart will be touched by His Presence. That seed of God is implanted in every heart, waiting to blossom. Everything that exists vibrates with this presence. The Presence is The Breath of God. That Risen Presence is there, even though we are most often not aware. Rather like breathing. Often we don’t notice until something happens, like volcanic dust in the air.

St. Paul knew the heart of Christ when he encourages us ,to rejoice with those who rejoice, be sad with those who are sad. A challenge indeed, but it translates the meaning of Easter, Ascension and Pentecost ...having ‘a heart’ for each other.
