5th Sunday Easter C

Peter asked Paddy The Irishman, to do duty at the Gate of Heaven. To get into Heaven each person has to spell one word. “What’s the word?” Paddy asked. “The word is Love .....L-O-V-E.” A man arrived at The Gate and Paddy didn’t like him. He said to him “You have to spell one word to get in here.” “What’s the word?” the man asked. Paddy said ....”BOSNIA HERZEGOVIA”.

Love is an easy word to spell, but not an easy life to live. Parents, people, patients could really tell the best love stories. The AD said that     Work is love made visible. I think of the constant demand of the day in family life, planning, shopping, cooking, caring, visiting, waiting, school runs, work duties, keeping in touch with family and friends. That is love tested. Love is ...I’ll get up when the baby is crying at night.

In God’s mind and Jesus teaching, there is only one Law and that is The Law of Love. That is the trademark of Christ followers. Loving is much deeper and hearty word than ‘Liking’. We cannot always like. We don’t share the same viewpoints or follow the same football team. We can agree to differ. We can wish people well in their differences, never refusing to talk or shake a hand and always with an inside reminder that ...I may be wrong. Parents always have to take action if their child is playing with fire or danger. The action is not always pleasant or liking, but it is tough love and ‘for real’.

Good Pope John used say that the true religion is the religion that cares – loves most.
