5 Sunday Easter B

Danny and Elena planned to give a surprise breakfast to mother for her birthday. Elena woke early and quietly went to the kitchen to get ‘things’ ready. Danny slept in or out – whatever. When breakfast was ready Mam went upstairs to wake Danny. She said ’Danny. Have you something to say to me?” Danny, rubbing his eyes, said ‘Oh Mammy I love you’. Mammy said ‘No, not those words’. Danny then said ‘Oh. Thanks’....Mam said ‘No, not those words’. Danny said then ‘Oh. Sorry. The breakfast ‘

Those three words ...Love, Thanks, Sorry are the wine of life. If our hearts could drink in those three words what a wonderful world there can be. When Jesus tells the story of the Vine Tree that makes wine He is talking about God Our Father whose Spirit, Christ, lives in human hearts. His resurrected spirit is present to us now, like the sap in the tree, it is real, but not visible. Jesus began His Mission with a feast of wine and concluded His earth mission with a Wine Supper. The New Wine that He left us is brim full of Love, Thanks and Sorry’s. Who has time for hate when so much loving has to be done and is being done through the presence of His Spirit?
