4 Sunday Easter B

I think that Jesus would call himself ’The Good Mother’ If He was using to-days media. He said ...This is my body given for you. ’He resonates ‘feminine’ heart feeling love. He was speaking of Himself, giving to the world and given for the world.

The mother gives her body not just for birth, but for life long caring, planning, shopping, making home. Her child is never out of mind. The mother will see goodness in her child, even when others see only mistakes. Mother is the first vocation.

I think that Marriage Courses begin with the mother and children, who are encouraged to say ‘Thanks’, say ‘Sorry’, say ‘Please’..Share with others. The vocation of religious life and priesthood is surely influenced by a mother’s attitude to priesthood and her caring eye for others.

When a parent tells me that they are not very religious, I like to remind that parents live the spirit of Mass everyday, in the minding of children. Baptism has been described as submitting to the inconveniences of life that come our way ,without asking , day and night..They are saying ...this is our bodies given for you ...sleepless hours, health worries, teenage challenges. Motherhood is even deeper than ones own children.

Jesus once said that motherhood was doing the good will of God that expresses love, which reminds me of single people with caring hearts, in schools, hospitals and nursing homes, in the community and neighbourhood, in public office. Telephonists who are never noticed much. Their contribution to life is immense. Mass celebrates the work and love of motherly hearts, in the heart of God.
