33 Sunday A

I liked playing football. My friend owned the football .Sometimes when we were playing a game, if his side was losing, he would pick up the football and run home. A football is made to be shared, to be passed around, not to be kept on a shelf or hid under the bed. I think that is what Jesus is telling us today about how to live life. All our gifts and talents are given on loan, not just for ourselves, but for others too. We are Gods instruments, privileged to be chosen.

We are not owners or full possessors of life. Sometimes we can feel hurt thinking of all one has done for the family, friends, the parish, school, the football team, the company of work, and there is little thanks or acknowledgement. That is true. But it is also true that we were privileged to be chosen as Gods hand .I imagine that parents with the arrival of a new baby can sense this truth .A wonder which is’ beyond’ them happens. They are only instruments. This evokes a deep sense of awe, a feeling of not being worthy of this great joy.

Our world rejoices with blessings of science .We have the ability to feed all the hungry of the world, and make human rights respected for all people. Maybe cutbacks and setbacks are blessings in disguise, a reminder of what is important in life, and what life is meant to be. When we encourage our young people to do for others, to put oneself out for another person, not only are we giving a recipe for happiness in this life, but we are giving thanks to the loving Father of all life. I think that the new President of the United Stated, when he talks about the need for change is sharing this idea.
