26 Sunday  B

Some Saints tell about Heaven and the Afterlife with great interest. St. Therese of Lisieux says that she has no works to merit. God is my work and God is Love. Asked about hell, she said “there may be hell, but there is nobody in it”. The only fire is the fire of Love. The Kingdom is given, not achieved. Maurice was a friend that used to write to Therese. Then he got involved in a bad relationship and stopped writing. When they met Therese said, “You must not have thought much of my tenderness to think that any sin you do would make me think less of you”.

Because we are human we are weak and because we are weak we pray. Jesus uses dramatic language to emphasise the blessings we have in this life, like, better with one eye, better with one hand, if my behaviour is hurting another. I think that He is saying that because of God’s Forever Faithful Love we can be channels of blessing and love for others in everyday life, from giving a glass of water to doing our daily jobs. It is as if thousands of blessings are waiting to be showered on people through our hands, hearts and listening and what a pity to miss out.

May the power of God’s Love in our hearts bring blessing to all we meet.
