25 Sunday  B

I like stories that grandparents tell about grandchildren. ‘When is your birthday?’ granda asked. ‘When I wake’ the little one replied. ‘A Bubble burst and where is the bubble gone?’ Gran asked. ‘In to the ground’ her grandchild said.

I remember juniors in school. One day a little girl asked ‘Why do they ring the Angelus Bell at 12 o’clock and at 6 o’clock?’ A hand shot up with the answer. You see the Angel came to ask Mary to have a baby, that was at 12 o’clock and the Angel said ‘Think about it’ and I will come back for the answer at 6 o’clock. The old story told that God drove Adam and Eve out of The Garden of Eden. The child painted the story with Adam and Eve together in the back of a Taxi, looking very happy, with God the Taxi Driver.

I like the image today of Jesus, with His arms around children, while adults are squabbling about importance. Jesus explains that we can learn a lot about God Our Loving Father from children...How they trust to be looked after, relying on others. They are not earners. They see all as Given. They love to laugh and see funny things. A child never says ..I have seen everything. They want to grow and experiment with what’s new. They get into bits of trouble. They get up and move on.

St.Therese of Lisieux loved The God of little things. She is called The Little Flower. She said ‘I have no works to earn God’s love’. I depend on His Work, which is Love.
