Money, banks, property keep making the news headlines in every country. So, I think it will always be so, because money is bread of life, a blessing of God, to be our servant, not our master. To-days Jesus Story tells about a servant 'fiddling' money from the boss or company, by 'doctoring' the books. Jesus puts a twist on the story, saying hasn’t that thief great imagination. Imagination is a wonder gift of God, if only we would use our imaginations to better our world, feed our hungry, be company for the lonely and forgotten, who may sometimes be a neighbour or relative. God is not money or matter, but is The Creator of money and matter. Indeed, God embraced matter in Jesus Christ. A little boy begged on the street... Give me a little help, and God bless you. A pompous man said to him... God didn’t bless you much, did He. Oh, yes He did sir, the boy answered, He gave gifts to other people for me, and they forgot to share. One blessing of Mass is that we are always asked to share. The basket that prompts to share will surely will be the basket full of blessing. Liam Hickey, St.Ciarans, Hartstown, Dublin 15. |
