23 Sunday  B

Sister Romain was one of the greatest religious educators I ever met. I was blessed to listen to her in person during some years in London. She said that one can teach children more with their hands than in other ways. Children can learn to bless with their hands at the beginning of Mass, because we have three Special Friends...Father, Son and Holy Spirit. With our hand we touch our forehead, lips and heart, to help us listen to Jesus Story. We use our hands to present gifts. We can clap our hands in praise. We shake hands in friendship. We receive The Bread of Life in our hands reverently.

It is true that hands and touch, travels further than words. The way Jesus uses His Hands is fascinating. He takes the children in His arms. Today He touches the deaf mans ears and then his tongue, to give him speech and there is great sensitivity in the way He heals this man. Touch is surely one of God’s greatest blessings. The hug, the embrace, the cuddle are powerful healers and then there is the vast varieties of massage, baths, therapies and physiotherapies, suntans and lotions, which are the work of human hands, that bring blessings to life.

Our Religion and the Christian Religion, has been beautifully explained as God in touch with us and we in touch with each other. This sums up the meaning of Christmas, Easter and Pentecost. Our ears are touched in Baptism with God’s word and our prayer at Mass expresses our thanks...Blessed are You God of all creation. Through Your Goodness we have this bread to offer, which earth has given and human hands has made...Blessed be God Forever.
