I trust that Fr.Paul Andrews .... a big hearted man with a compassionate eye, will forgive me borrowing the gist of his story in the Irish Messenger ...’Say it to my Face ‘.The priest doing his best to cope with all shades of habit and opinion is reported to the Cardinal. The Cardinal invites the priest to Archbishops House .The priest suspects that it is not for dinner or a gin and tonic that he is summoned . The Cardinal says to him that I want to read for you the list of complaints that I have received about you.The priest listened, and then took a sheet of paper out of his pocket .On the paper was a list of complaints the people had about the Cardinal .The Cardinal said ..Thank you .....and I hope that they shared a drink ..water of course .I am sure some people think that reporting to ‘the authorities’ is a good way,but the Good Lord leaves us in no doubt ....go to the person first ...maybe to ask why he or she does or did this action ..give the person a chance to explain .The second line of defence /help may well be ‘the authorities’.but with Jesus Christ , The Law of Love comes before the Love of law.
