21 Sunday  B

I am still asking myself what is this singers secret? He really ‘switches on’. I was treated to Leonard Cohen’s concert of songs. There were fifteen thousand people present, aged 18 to 80 years and incidentally, the man is in his seventies. He has ‘presence’..spirit presence, in the way he expresses himself ..his words, brief and chiselled from the heart. His song lyrics touch all strings of the human heart. They are religious songs, but not in religious language. His respect for every member of his orchestra team is awesome. His body language, especially in the use of his hands is deeply reverent...some songs he sings kneeling. Playing solo guitar he seems to go into a trance, wedded to his instrument, celebrating the wonder of ‘being.’

Holy Communion is ‘a spirit presence’ that cannot be rationalised. The Bread from Heaven is so humble, yet awesome. Jesus says that it is about The Spirit. The Father calls us ....Take and eat.

The Spirit in the singer reflects in his actions. The Bread from Heaven always reflects in the way we treat the Body of Christ, which is people and God’s Family on this earth. The smile is on the face, but the good deed is from the heart. This nourishment of God helps to grow in love. The opportunities are not far away. They are beside us, indeed beginning in myself.
