1 Sunday  Lent B

The imagination takes pictures all the time. There are love stories hidden in the images of Gods Words. I was five years in college, seven years in the seminary cum university, but I did not know the story of the word ‘Covenant’ mentioned in Gods Word today, until Sister Romain, in London, in the early days of Vatican Two, explained that a covenant was a ‘love promise’ and a wedding ring is a sign of faithfulness to that promise. God is always faithful, and the rainbow in the sky is a sign of that faithfulness.. for all and always. See can you find the word ‘covenant’ at Mass.. and where....maybe an idea for Lent.

I wrote a book once-not because I thought I was a writer, but I wanted to put the colours of the rainbow on the cover of the book. I called it ‘A Taste for Living’. I didn’t get any money out of it, but a lot of satisfaction. I still read it myself to day, which surprises  me ,because written words are often soon forgotten, like yesterdays paper.

Another image to day is’ Spirit’. Paul likes to think of water or flood as Gods Spirit always recreating the world, and celebrated in a special way at the water font  of Baptism. Mark says that ’The Spirit drove Jesus into the wilderness, and He was with wild beasts and angels’. Reminds me of the popular book ‘Angels in your hair’. Lorna lived through a wilderness of sickness, poverty, pain and disappointment, and at the same time in the company of angels. I ask children around the Baptism Font to inhale a deep ‘BREATH’ three times, and let it out slowly. Try it for Lent, especially if annoyed by traffic, or hurt by someone’s action, or just living.
