19 Sunday  B

He was a saintly Franciscan Friar. He blessed people with Padre Pio’s glove. My friend, who had a cancer condition, went to him. He greeted her warmly and called her ‘Sophie Lauren’. Sophie was a very famous and glamorous film and TV star. Months later my friend had deteriorated. She called her sister from New York, asking her to contact the holy man-to say a prayer for her. She said that he will remember me because he called me Sophie Lauren. The sister did as told. The Friar said ‘Ah, a grad at my age, I can remember nothing. I call them all ..Sophie Lauren.’

In God’s mind we are all Sophie Laurens, special, His creation, His loved ones.  We can’t really believe this, unlike my lovely friend. Mass is the special sign of God’s favour. The Father gives us Bread from Heaven, through His Spirit. It is a constant healing blessing for us, His weak , worried, wandering family.

St. John Vianney, trying to explain this mystery of Love, said that when God made human persons, He wanted to give them a special food. He sent His Angels all over the world looking for suitable food. They went to all the Supermarkets, bakeries, kitchens of the world, but no food was found good enough for Gods delightful sons and daughters who were human, but never perfect. So God The Father decided to send His own Son from Heaven, as a Special Food, for His Loved people.

That is how Christmas, Easter and Pentecost happened.

Jesus said to the crowds ...Take and eat, not take and understand.
