18 Sunday C.

Stephen Yancey is a keen observer of life, and a vibrant spiritual writer. He asks ‘’What on(the) Earth are we missing’’.He says that it is interesting listening to eulogies at funerals.Ones healthy bank account is never mentioned ,nor things like greed, selfishness, anger or prejudices. It is rather qualities of spirit that are spoken of,like goodness, kindness, generosity, patience, humour, beauty, thought for others.I can remember the wise sayings of others.’’Money is a good servant, but a bad master’’.You can’t take it with you ...there are no pockets in a shroud’’.There is a call of Something or Someone Greater than ourselves ,and our world. Our desires are pointers, and hints of That Beyond. All is given. All is on loan.Water reflects light and colour, but does not possess it,and so our human condition The open mind, with word and thought, the open hand with generosity of heart ,reflect the Spirit. What matters is God,His compassion to us,and our compassion to others.
