A missionary Sister told me how she counsels troubled
marriage partners.The wife is encouraged to speak her viewpoint for five
minutes ,withour interruption.Then,the husband is encouraged to speak his
five minutes,withour interruption.The results are generally positive.
Most of us in to days Jesus Story would have sympathy
with Martha,who did all the shopping,cooking,and welcoming,,while Miss Mary
,sat with Jesus ,listening,and grabbing the attention.Then ,when Jesus says that
‘listening ‘comes first,it is all a bite much.Yet,there is great truth
here.Listening is from the heart.Hearing is from the ears.The parent that
listens to the stories of their little ones ,is priceless food.In old age
too, we love to tell our stories.A listener ,is a singular blessing .The
mystic tells that in Heaven we will be able to tell our story,be totally
accepted,and understood ,for the first time ever.We have to admire those too
,who listen to the cry of the poor ,in depression,hunger,and sometimes
persecution,and are moved at heart ,to help.
We are told that Mary,The Mother of God ,,listened ,to
the Angel.The result was a flood of blessing to inundate our world.We need
help to listen with heart.Mary pray for us.
