Vincent de Paul – France - 17th
Century
Our image of God is often shaped by the image of our
parents. If we have had bad childhood experiences, it is difficult to see
God as loving Father/Mother. Many people say that a healing image of God is
our great need and best prayer.
Vincent de Paul had a grumpy temperament, but he did not
let that influence his idea of God, as the loving compassionate Father, who
loves his sons and daughters.
We must try to be involved in the cares and sorrows of
our brothers and sisters, he said, and pray for the spirit of compassion. Love
takes precedence over all. A neighbour’s need comes first.
