Mozart - 18th Century
Mozart was a gifted genius in the world of music. His
ability to lift the heart, refresh the spirit, to distil joy, is beyond
compare. His musical career began at four years of age. He suffered
disappointments and rejections during his short life. He was buried in a
common grave. Yet his light hearted spirit continues to grace our world
with magical sound. He died in his thirties. He wrote this letter to his
father in 1778.
“Since death is the
ultimate purpose of life, I have made myself acquainted with this real
friend of mankind. I am not frightened, rather comforted and consoled. I
never lie down to sleep without thinking, young as I am, that I may not
live to see another day. I will not be saddened or unwilling when the time
comes. For this happiness, I thank my Creator every day. I wish the same
happiness to everyone in my life. “
The words are as beautiful as his farewell requiem.
